When is ACAP given?

The ACAP testing is given to students at school in grades 2 through 8. It is administered during the school year in the spring. The students will be tested in math and English/language arts, which includes a writing section. In addition, grades 4, 6, and 8 will be administered assessments in science.

Tips for Taking the ACAP

At Bright Education, you can utilize our test preparation materials as they assist students in gaining confidence and boosting test scores on the ACAP. The materials are both cost-effective and thorough, covering all major disciplines: English / Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Science.

Students are provided with instant results and feedback after taking tests and can view reports that include comprehensive charts and graphs tracking progress. Practice testing helps promote student achievement and growth and prepare your child for their school's annual testing.

To prepare to take the ACAP, it's important to know both what to do and what not to do in order to maximize your score. This article will give you a rundown of tips to help you or your child prepare for taking the ACAP straight from our experts at Bright Education.

Here are our ACAP testing tips.

Test Preparation Before the ACAP:

Tips for Taking the ACAP

1. Know the test format
The ACAP contains a variety of standardized testing item format types, including multiple-choice, evidence-based, selected-response, technology-enhanced, constructed-response, and performance-based. It's important to familiarize yourself with these formats before taking the test, as it will help minimize day-of-test anxiety.

2. Take timed practice tests
Taking practice exams is a good idea if you want to study for the ACAP. Practice questions will help you get acclimated to the test format while also allowing you to find any areas where you need to pay more attention. Make an effort to re-create as closely as possible the test conditions. This means taking timed tests and only taking permitted rest periods.

3. Create a study schedule
You don't want to wait until the night before to start studying because that will not be enough time to retain the material. You also want to make sure you get a good night's sleep the night before and that you're not staying up all night. You can avoid a last-minute study cram by scheduling 20 minutes to 2 hours of study time every day leading up to the test.

Bright Education makes this step simple by providing you with the test materials you'll need, so you won't have to waste any time creating a study strategy.

4. Compare your test scores to other students with Bright Education Exclusive Reports
Bright Education offers an exclusive National Percentile Comparison Report at the end of each practice test you take. This extensive report will measure the scores of individual students with other students taking the same standardized tests in the same grade level across the nation. It is an excellent tool for students, parents, and teachers alike to see how well a student is doing comparatively in a particular topic area.

5. Ask for help
If you're a student and have any questions about your Bright Education programs, make sure to ask your parent or teacher for their advice or support on how you can improve. If you're a parent, check in with your child and your child's teacher and make sure they go over any wrong answers and encourage your child to complete the practice assessments. The Bright Education online assessment is a powerful testing tool that you want to make sure you're utilizing.

Helping your child and assessing their student performance can be as quick as sitting down with them for 15 minutes and making sure they understand how to get the right answer. This can help your child's confidence and encourage them to come to you for help in the future. Your child's teacher will be grateful too!

Day of the ACAP:

1. Eat a healthy breakfast
You want to ensure you have enough energy to power through the test. Eating a nutritious breakfast the morning of the test will help you focus and do your best. Here are a few examples of a great morning breakfast that's sure to fuel both your mind and your body!

-Whole grain toast with almond or peanut butter and a sliced banana
-Oatmeal with fresh berries and a side of yogurt
-A bowl of cereal with milk and a hard-boiled egg

2. Make sure you have all your testing materials with you
Make sure to bring a few number two pencils and an eraser and pencil sharpener. In certain cases, for certain grades, you will be allowed to use a calculator for the math portion of the exam, so ask your teacher if a calculator will be allowed beforehand.

3. Don't talk negatively to yourself or others about the test
This puts you in a negative mindset and can make you more anxious. It's important to stay positive and remind yourself that you've studied hard and are prepared. Visualize yourself succeeding, and you're more likely to be confident in yourself. And remember you've been studying with Bright Education! You've got this.

During the ACAP:

1. Read every question carefully
Make sure you understand what is being asked before answering. If you're unsure of what a question is asking, ask your teacher for clarification.

2. Develop a Test-Taking Strategy
There is no one right way to take the ACAP. However, it is important to develop a strategy before you take the test. This will help you stay focused and avoid wasting time on the assessment.

Some tips for developing a strategy include:

-Read the test questions carefully before answering
-Answer the easiest questions first
-Circle/highlight any important information in a question or passage

3. Check your work
Make sure to go back and check your answers before turning in the test. Sometimes we make careless mistakes when we rush through and don't take our time. Checking your work will help you catch any mistakes you may have made.
