National Common Core conference set for June

As most states plan to have the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) fully implemented by the 2014-2015 academic year - if not earlier - many educators, parents and professionals have a desire to learn more about the CCSS fast. A good way for them to accomplish this goal is through the types of learning opportunities afforded by national conferences.

The Common Core Institute, a research, training and consulting organization, recently announced that it plans to host its National Conference on College and Career Readiness and Common Core State Standards from June 28 through June 29, 2013. This event, which will be held at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes Resort and Spa in Orlando, Florida, is designed to expand attendees' understanding of the CCSS.

"If we view the Standards as just a new checklist of things to teach, we will fail," said Kevin E. Baird, the Institute's chairman. "To meet College & Career Readiness requirements, we need to get fifth-graders reading at today’s eighth-grade level."

Over the course of this event, individuals will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on CCSS sessions and attend informative presentations.
