General Description of the Tests
Maine’s Comprehensive Assessment System (MeCAS)
- Designed to serve three purposes:
- Inform and guide teaching and learning
- Monitor and hold educational units accountable in achieving the Learning Results
- Certify achievement of Maine’s Learning Results
- Has several components:
- Maine Educational Assessment (MEA)
- New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP)
- Maine High School Assessment (MHSA)
- Personalized Alternate Assessment Portfolio (PAAP)
- Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)
- ACCESS for ELLs®
- National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
