Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT)

Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT)
  • Grade: 10
  • Subjects: Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Science

CMT/CAPT Alternate Assessment
  • Designed exclusively for special education students with significant cognitive disabilities


National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
  • Grades: 4, 8, 12
  • Subjects: U.S. History, Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Writing

Test Descriptions

Connecticut Mastery Test(CMT)
Reading

  • Degrees of Reading Power (DRP)

  • - Assesses students’ ability to understand what has been read
    - Students read nonfiction text with missing words and then choose appropriate words to complete the text.
  • Reading Comprehension

  • - Assesses students’ understanding of both fiction and nonfiction passages through multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions that require written responses

Writing
  • Direct Assessment of Writing

  • - Requires students to draft a piece of writing in response to a given topic
  • Editing & Revising

  • - Requires students to answer multiple-choice questions to show how well they can edit and revise a written passage

Mathematics
  • Measures performance on a range of skills and concepts expected to be mastered by the time of testing
  • Has multiple-choice, open-ended and grid-in questions

Science (Grades 5 and 8 only)
  • Assesses students’ understanding of important scientific concepts from life, earth and physical science strands, as well as the ability to apply those concepts to real-world issues
  • There is a major focus on scientific inquiry and using scientific reasoning to solve problems.
  • Includes a combination of multiple-choice and open-ended questions
