Assessment Information

Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)

  • Grades: 3-8
  • Subjects: Reading, Mathematics, Science, Writing
  • Measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards
  • The results give parents, teachers, and schools one measure of student learning and school performance.


Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA)

  • Grades: 3-8, 11
  • Subjects: Reading, Mathematics, Science, Writing
  • The yardstick the state uses to measure the learning of students with significant cognitive disabilities


Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE)

  • Grade: 11
  • Subjects: Reading, Mathematics, Science, Writing
  • Measure the achievement of grade 11 students relative to the Illinois Learning Standards


Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency Test (ICEPT)

  • Grades: 9-12
  • The School Code of Illinois specifies that public school students in grades 9 through 12 shall be provided instruction in the area of consumer education.
  • The purpose of the instruction is to help students understand concepts that affect fundamental decisions about their personal financial affairs, such as installment purchasing, budgeting, and comparison shopping.


Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS)

  • Grade: 8
  • Measures mathematics and science achievement
  • Collects extensive information from students, teachers, and school principals about mathematics and science curricula, instruction, home contexts, and school characteristics and policies


National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

  • Grades: 4, 8
  • Subjects: Reading, Mathematics
  • Has frequently been called the "Nation's Report Card"
  • The only national assessment of what America’s students know and can do in various subject areas
  • NAEP does not provide scores for individual students or schools; instead, it offers results regarding subject-matter achievement, instructional experiences, and school environment for populations of students (e.g., fourth-graders) and subgroups of those populations (e.g., female students, Hispanic students).

 

Test Descriptions

Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) Includes Three Components:

  • The ACT Plus Writing, which includes the ACT battery of four multiple-choice tests (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science) and a 30-minute constructed-response Writing test with a single prompt question
  • An Illinois-State-Board-of-Education-developed science assessment
  • Two WorkKeys assessments (Applied Mathematics and Reading for Information)

  • March 1-12, 2010


Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA)

  • 2010: February 22 – March 19
  • 2011: February 22 – March 18 (tentative)
  • 2012: February 27 – March 23 (tentative)


Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE)

  • Initial Test Dates: April 28-29, 2010
  • Makeup Test Dates: May 12-13, 2010


Illinois Consumer Education Proficiency Test (ICEPT)

  • Winter: February 2-3, 2010
