About Our Practice Tests

Information About The Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) Tests State Testing Information for Arizona Portions of the following material were taken from the Arizona Department of Education website. Please see our links and source sections at the bottom of the page for more details and references. General Description of the Tests There are two types of assessment.
- Standards Based Assessments
– Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) – Measure student proficiency of the Arizona Academic Content Standards in Writing, Reading, Mathematics, and Science – Developed by Arizona teachers
- Norm Referenced Assessments
– Stanford 10 – Measure student national percentile ranking in Reading, Language, and Mathematics – Developed by Pearson Assessment Information Arizona’s Assessment Program
- Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS)
– Grades: 3-8 – Subjects: Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science – Contains both AIMS and Stanford 10 items
- Stanford 10
– Grades: 2 and 9 – Subjects: Reading, Language, Mathematics – Norm-Referenced Assessment – Measures student national percentile ranking
- AIMS HS (High School)
– Grades: 10, 11, 12 – Subjects: Writing, Reading, Mathematics, Science
- AIMS-A (for students with significant cognitive disabilities)
– Grades: 3-8 and 10, 11, 12 – Subject: Reading, Mathematics, Science National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
- Grades: 4, 8, 12
- Subjects: Reading, Mathematics, Writing
- Also known as "the Nation's Report Card"
- The only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas
- Provides results regarding subject-matter achievement, instructional experiences, and school environment for populations of students (e.g., fourth-graders) and groups within those populations (e.g., female students, Hispanic students)

- Grades 3-8: Reading and Mathematics, includes Stanford 10 Reading, Language, Mathematics
- Grades 5, 6, 7: Writing
- Grades 4 and 8: Science
